SALEM, MA — Those planning to take the commuter rail from Boston to Salem for Halloween events will need to hop on a bus in and out of North Station on two upcoming weekends.
The MBTA said work on the new Chelsea Station will require bus service from North Station to Lynn on Sept. 25-26 and Oct. 9-10.
Outbound buses will depart North Station and Chelsea 15 minutes prior to the normal schedule. Inbound train traffic will depart Lynn on roughly the regular weekend schedule. However, because of traffic, longer travel times may occur.
Commuter rail service between Lynn and Rockport, and Lynn and Newburyport, will not be affected.
Normal train service will operate between North Station and the Newburyport/Rockport stations on Oct. 2-3.
Those taking the train to Salem for Halloween festivities are reminded that masks are required on all MBTA bus and train services, as well as inside public buildings and businesses in Salem. That includes the MBTA parking garage.
Those arriving in Salem for a large indoor event in October are also subject to the city’s coronavirus testing order where a negative test is required with 72 hours to attend any party, wedding reception, holiday ball or other event taking place indoors at a public venue when that event has 100 or more guests.
